About: Dana Haynes
Dana Haynes is the public affairs manager for Portland Community College, a job he has held since June 2007. Prior to that, he spent 20 years in Oregon newsrooms, including weeklies in the Portland metro area, two years at The Oregonian and eight years at the Statesman Journal in Salem.
At the Statesman Journal, Haynes served as a reporter, columnist, copy editor, copy chief, education editor, Capitol bureau chief and online editor. He also posted podcasts for StatesmanJournal.com and blogged on state government and politics.
His accomplishments in journalism include twice being named Communicator of the Year by the Oregon Education Association. He also won the 2005 award in Excellence in News Writing from the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association.
He is a frequent contributor to Oregon Public Broadcasting programs and has been a guest speaker for groups as diverse as the League of Women Voters, the House Republican caucus, New Leadership Oregon and the Oregon School Boards Association.
Haynes is the author of three published novels and his first screenplay made it to the semifinals of a contest sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2005. He lives in Portland with his cats, Velocity and Grace.
